Nipple Twiddling

My son is 18 months and still nursing. I don't intend to stop until he wants to. However, he has to have a nipple in his hand when he's nursing and he digs his nails in and pulls on it and it drives me insane! I can't get him to stop. I try to hold his hand, give him something else to hold onto but he has no interest and gets mad if he can't play with a nipple. I think it's a comfort thing but it's driving me up the wall. It's almost to the point where I want to wean him even before he's ready. 😭😭😭😭
