I have a excruciating painful subareolar abscess behind my right nipple, it’s huge, won’t drain, the pain is unbearable. I’ve been hot packing it non stop but it’s not doing much. Wondering if anyone ever had something like this? It’s from a clogged & infected milk duct. I’m not breastfeeding, nor do I have children. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE #1: Wednesday Appointment 5/13. Diagnosed with a Subareolar Breast Abscess, got an antibiotic shot in my butt, oral antibiotics for home, ibuprofen & pain pills. Return Friday to see if surgery is something that needs to be done, or if they can aspirate it with needle & syringe.

UPDATE #2: Friday’s Appointment 5/15. Got admitted into the Hospital, had an ultrasound of my breast done. Antibiotics so far are not working so I had to have another shot of antibiotic in the butt. No surgery yet, they want to aspirate it but we are going to wait the weekend to see if antibiotics work. Return again Monday morning to see if things are better, and another ultrasound.

UPDATE#3: Saturday 5/16. This morning I woke up and called my doctor, the pain and abscess size is a lot worse. He told me to go to ER. Bergan Mercy has now admitted me into Hospital, I’m doing IV antibiotics and of course got another shot in the butt. Surgeons are deciding if they are going to cut it open or not, probably find out in morning if antibiotics did anything. I’m being referred to a Breast Specialist as well.

UPDATE#4: Monday Appointment 5/18. Last night the abscess came to a head, so I stuck it with a needle and let everything drain. Instant relief! Went to appointment this morning, got another antibiotic shot in the butt, and go see the surgeon in afternoon. Surgeon went ahead and cut my areola open and packed it with iodoform gauze, Incision & Drainage. I can remove the gauze Wednesday morning while showering. Return Wednesday afternoon.

UPDATE #5: Wednesday’s Appointment 5/20. Everything looked good, removed iodoform gauze today. Incision has to stay open so it can continue to drain. Surgeon said if it does not heal or comes back he may need to remove a part of the nipple, so I really hope everything heals well. Unfortunately due to being on 5 different antibiotics I now have Oral Thrush (Yeast Infection) & a Vaginal Yeast Infection, so I am now on anti-fungal medication for 3 weeks while still having to take antibiotics. I go back to surgeon next week.

UPDATE#6: Monday 6/01. Incision has completely healed closed. Finished Antibiotics a week ago. Finished last Anti-fungal today. Unfortunately I noticed some more pain today and that the lump had returned. I pushed on it and it’s now draining through my nipple piercing holes. The Infection definitely is back. Go back to Doctors tomorrow.

UPDATE#7: Tuesday’s Appointment 6/02. Surgeon made another incision closer to the nipple and packed it with iodoform gauze again! Can’t believe this is the second incision for the same issue! I’m back on Antibiotics, Anti-fungals & pain pills. Return once again tomorrow

UPDATE#8: Wednesday’s Appointment 6/03. Surgeon removed iodoform gauze and squeezed everything out. I just have to continue draining it. I go back to Doctors Monday afternoon.
