Yes, OPKs can detect hcg since it’s very similar to LH. This pic has what OPKs look like eight varying levels of hcg.

It can only be positive from pregnancy if you also get a positive pregnancy test 
If it’s positive but the pregnancy test is negative it’s more likely a surge before af

I don't think they would show positive unless a HCG test was also positive. Like it doesn't tell you any earlier than a pregnancy test would. 
It's also normal to get another LH surge just before your period so it's not reliable

I’ve done it too. I got a positive opk when pregnant, but I wouldn’t trust it as a sole source for pregnancy confirmation.
