When is it best to try for baby #2

Hello ladies i am really wanting to know what you guys think and maybe some tips on preparing/having a baby #2. I have a boy his name is Matteo and he is 17 months and literally starting sleeping through the night at 14 months. My delivery with him was pretty traumatic. There are times where my mind will go back to that day. At 17 months of age now i feel like i can finally get things done at times or like he can entertain himself a bit more. I don’t want to be selfish and not give him a sibling. I think i really don’t want more kids but that is because i miss me time. My son has been a very difficult baby since day 01. He would always always cry. Hard to entertain. I have to be right by his side constantly. Would having another baby make things better? Maybe he could have someone to play with? Plus all these adorable baby videos gives me baby fever

My son is 16 months old and I’m 24 weeks pregnant. My son was colic and a very tough baby. Even now he gets frustrated easy and super moody. We figured we are already in the trenches- let’s just do the second baby now!

I already had my second, she's 12 weeks now. I think that what stood out to me the most on your post is that you said you don't think you want another child. I completely understand wanting a sibling for your little boy, I wanted two fr the get go for this exact reason, but my first was, and is, a very easy child. I worry that having another when you're not ready will affect your mental health. Wait until you're ready before being such another big commitment x

My son is 21 months and I'm 5 months pregnant with baby #2. I always wanted my kids to be close in age. They'll be 2 years apart. I understand what you mean. My son is not difficult but he is very active and being the only child he also cries alot at times and just wants to be held. But recently he's starting to be better and having him around other kids has helped. I'm excited to see how he'll be with new sibling as I too am trying to figure out if this is what he needs, someone to play and fight with lol.

Make a preconception appt and talk to your OBGYN about where you’re at physically and mentally. They say waiting until 18 months-2 years before TTC again is most healthy but my doctor said she was fine if I started to try again. I had a VERY easy pregnancy and decently easy delivery, though.

Our daughter is 16.5 months old and I am 20 weeks pregnant. She is and was a happy baby but tough in sleep. Had colic the first 3 months. Still doesn’t sleep through the night. Up every 2-3 hrs crying. Ended up developing preeclampsia in the hospital during induction and ended with a csection. We knew we wanted two and for them to be close together. We figured we aren’t sleeping through the night and we know we are done after this so why not just pull the bandaid off and have a sibling. We are very excited for how close they will be. Scared. But excited. Tying my tubes while having my next csection. Good luck mama. Don’t give yourself demanding time frames if you’re not ready. ❤️

My first and second are about a year and a half apart. Our second ended up being special needs and was a preemie. We’ve been through a lot(most people don’t go through that). We didn’t realize he was special needs until 4 months into my pregnancy with our third(she’s  almost 2.5 years younger than the middle child). My thoughts after all is said and done, I wish I’d waited longer between our older two. If there is a 2.5 or 3 year gap, then older sibling is more independent, there is better communication plus you will enjoy watching all those milestones and watching the baby become a little boy. I think the main thing is to make sure you are ready before you decide. I know people say it is easier to just get them all done quick but I think I’ve felt downright exhausted for the majority of the last 6 years. That being said there are also factors to think of like how much outside help you will have(our family isn’t close by so we don’t have a sitter). When it’s the right time you’ll know. We didn't take any precautions after our girl was born.. simply because it took us 2.5 years to conceive her. Here we are almost 2 years later and just found out we are pregnant:)

My daughter is 22 months old and I am 36 weeks pregnant with my second. My labor was slightly traumatic but my first double postpartum days were very traumatic, my daughter almost died. She still gives us a lot of trouble going down to sleep and always ends up in our bed. But for our family I wanted to have a two-year age difference because that's what I have with my sibling and we're best friends.
My mother-in-law had all of her kids three years apart so that she had some time to sleep between babies. That really worked for her. I think it comes down to what's best for you.
It could be beneficial for you to have a few sessions of counseling to work through your traumatic birth. PTSD is a real thing and a counselor could help you.

My son is 17 months and I’m 36 weeks pregnant. This pregnancy was a surprise but we are excited to welcome our baby girl into the family. I’m not going to lie parenting a one year old and being pregnant has been one of the hardest things I’ve done to date. I planned on waiting until my was was 3 to try again. Everyone tells me 18 months apart is the best once they get older and can play together and we’re getting through the toddler stage all at once. I say evaluate your situation and do what’s best for your family.

there is 6 (six!) years between my 2 kids, lol. our second was born December 30, 2018. 6 years and 29 days after our first born Dec. 1, 2012.  My oldest was a ‘simple’ babe but I was younger & really felt that I needed to find my footing in motherhood/life before adding another to mix. not saying it’s ideal, but it’s really been wonderful; as now with a 7yo + 17mo old I really appreciate our older sons independence & he’s such a helper with his bro! Our second seems fussier and needier (but i AM six years removed sooo) and I just cannot see tending to his needs + the miseries of early pregnancy & THEN newborn + postpartum? Sheeeeesh. I ain’t ready. Obviously mamas do it everyday - so it really comes down to what’s best for you, and your family! Maybe getting all the baby/toddler shit done at once works better for your fam?! For me, I wanna take another year or two to ground into motherhood a little deeper, see how babe #2 evolves into himself before trying for #3.
