They sell toilet seats that have little toilet seats built into them. We bought one and it's been so much easier that putting her toddler seat on the toilet every time she goes.

We bought the new toilet seats with the magnetic built in small seat. We also have a small portable pot with the chamber you empty.

I prefer the small potty for my son. We have a potty seat in his bathroom but then a small potty on our main floor. With the small potty, he goes by himself, pours it down the big toilet and flushes. All alone. With the potty seat, even with the step stool, he needs some help getting on it right. Also he tends to pee on himself more because most potty seats don’t have as high of a lip on the front.

Depends on the age/size,  my girls were out of day diapers by 20 and 26 months old.  The big potty, even with a seat, was way too big for them.  My second was terrified of the big potty.
