I’m not gonna lie, it’s nerve wracking to be #27weekspregnant during this #COVID19 pandemic. I’m normally super healthy. Like I once had to re-sign up as a patient for my primary care Dr because I hadn’t had to see them for years and finally got sick. But even getting the flu shot, in February I got the Flu. Followed by a nasty sinus infection. So I know my immune system is not what is usually is.
On top of fear of getting the disease my bigger worry is having a newborn in this environment without a fully functioning immune system.
It’s uncertainty of my hospital tour and birth class being cancelled so the first time I walk into the unfamiliar hospital is delivery day.
It’s possible new hospital rules that I can only have my husband for support and not the doula with us like we planned.
It’s not knowing if I’ll be able to breastfeed and the possibility I may find out that out I need to supplement with formula only to have shelves bare and not be able to feed my baby.
It’s not knowing if diapers and wipes and supplies for my post partum recovery will be available when I need them.
It’s having infertility steal the fun of making a baby and fill the first half of pregnancy with fear of a miscarriage and corona virus steal the possibility of an in person baby shower.
It’s the 1,000 other things that as a first time mom I don’t even know I’ll need until the situation presents itself.
But instead of being paralyzed by fear I’m trying to be proactive. To social distance enough to keep us healthy and choose reusable items like cloth diapers and wipes and stocking up on laundry detergent so I don’t find myself in a bad situation because of store availability. I got a two day supply of newborn formula to give us a buffer in case we need it. I’m trying to think of all the things we may need that I can get now in case they aren’t available when I need them in 84 days. But I’ve never been a mom, and I need your help.
Considering the uncertainty of available items, what are things I should start buying now instead of waiting for a baby shower? What baby items saved you when you weren’t expecting it? If you were pregnant right now, how would you be preparing?
