Inductions?! Why so many?

This is an honest question because I really don’t understand why this is so popular... 
Why are so many of you choosing to be induced ? I’m Canadian and here unless medically needed or a week or more over due induction is never talked about. 
I have seen 4 family members have god awful births from over due inductions and I refuse to get one unless medically needed to save myself and baby... so I’m just genuinely curious as to why some people just choose to get one... 
I always have the mentality of baby comes when baby is ready and not before. Even if the hip pain is killer, lol. I’m 31 weeks 4 days and it’s starting to get uncomfy but I know I need to let her grow as much as she needs.

I think many that do get induced are for medical reasons. I haven’t heard of many people doing it just for the sake of it. Most doctors will induce you if you’re over due because of the risks that are associated with going severely overdue (the placenta starts calcifying and stops working, risks to the baby etc) I don’t think anyone should belittle inductions or question them except the mom herself; each mom will do as they and their provider see fit.

I love how you made it very clear that you're not judging anyone but you're just curious for reasons to have the not medically required choice to be induced (early)
And people take it as critique anyways...
I'm a FTM too, at 30w this week.
I'm from Europe and I find it funny how "common sense" is different in different places.
(also to all defensive people: I'm not saying being induced is in any way not common sense.. I meant in general)

I was induced at 39+3 for no other reason that the fact that I wanted to have childcare prepared for my other 2 kids, but the evening before I was scheduled to be induced, I started having contractions, and the morning of, my water broke, and my daughter was born 13 minutes after our original scheduled induction time. I still had to get pitocin because labor stopped once we got to the hospital.

There are many unnecessary inductions done in the US, thus our high fetal and maternal mortality and poor outcome rate. Some women think it’s a simple, risk free procedure and are simply “too uncomfortable to go on”, which in my opinion is selfish. But to each their own.

Here is my thing with inducing. Every woman and every pregnancy is different. You don’t know all the reasons to why they get induced. You don’t know how hard their pregnancy has been. And you don’t know the whole story. So why are we judging moms for the way we give birth. Why can’t we all be supportive of each other especially now that we lose a lot of the support we need due to the virus.

My Dr tried to talk me into getting induced because he thought my baby was going to be over 8 pounds, and supposedly after babies hit 8 pounds the percentages of needed intervention is much higher, mainly c-section.
I told him to kick rocks. 
Ok not really, but I told him I wouldn't consider being induced until I was at least a week over due, but that I was convinced I wouldn't even make it to my due date. Had my baby boy a week later, four days before his due date, at 7.12 pounds. All natural, no epidural, no meds. I heard someone one claim doctors like to schedule it so that more babies are born on their schedule. 🤷 Who knows.

Doctors are licensed to make the best decision for health of mother and baby! Highly highly Doubt they’d agree on induction just get the baby out due to discomfort.

What do you mean by choice? A dr has to sign those papers and to my knowledge inductions are to prevent complications whether you think its too early or not. What are you basing that off? The weeks? I got induced for medical reasons (diabetic and baby was measuring large - he was 8lbs15oz at birth). I was 37w6d. And I still needed to get cut down below because his shoulders were wide. I’m sure your family members have reasons too it’s just not that it’s everyone’s business at such a delicate time. I definitely did not want to share every little detail like having my cervix start to shorten at 25 or 27w (can’t remember) or being so uncomfortable but not wanting to complain anymore. Things are discussed with dr and I’m sure they’re not signing induction papers as “moms in pain” 😂

I would never go a week past my due date. There’s a high chance the baby will be too big by then. 🤷🏻‍♀️
