Would you give CPR or medical assistance to a stranger during the pandemic?
**Assuming you know CPR, are CPR certified, or have basic medical knowledge to assist a stranger**
Since lockdown began around the world in March, health officials have recommended the public do not give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation due to Covid-19; chest compressions are still recommended.
However, since the pandemic, there have been more cases in various countries showing people’s hesitancy to help those they see in medical need for fear of the virus.
In Sydney, Australia, a Chinese man died on the sidewalk outside of a restaurant of a Covid-unrelated heart attack with bystanders all around him. In New York City, a woman fell and suffered a compound fracture of her wrist. She asked bystanders for help, but people ignored her. I couldn’t find a news article on this one, just saw a viral post about it, but supposedly a man in Miami had an asthma attack while at a park walking his dog, and people were seen running away from him covering their faces.
If you saw a stranger in medical need, would you offer assistance? Even if it was just to be near them to call 911? Would you if there was not a pandemic? Why or why not?
