How old were you when you bought your first car?

Was it a used car or a new car? Do you have any advice/ suggestions on buying your first car & saving up?

for buying a car by myself, 19. it was new. i paid cash for mine, since i didn't want to be paying interest on something as small as a car. plus i ordered mine online bc the company doesn't have an actual dealership, so you have to pay sticker price. however, my bf always tells me that when he looks at cars he calls a bunch of dealers, finds the lowest quote, then takes that price to all the other dealers and strong arms them to match or beat the price LOL. also don't be surprised if you get a new car and paperwork takes 4+ hours. if you buy used, always ask for service reports and thoroughly check the car. try not to get a car that either isn't super common or relatively new. just to make sure you'll have car parts if you need to replace anything.

I was 16. My dad died (parents were divorced so I was sole beneficiary as his only biological child) and my mom helped me use part of the life insurance to buy a new base model Toyota Yaris. That thing didn’t have cruise control and had crank windows despite being a brand new 2012 model lol! I loved that thing though. I kept it until 2016 when I traded it in for a RAV4 (my absolute favorite car).

Right after I turned 17. A 2004 rav4. It was 10 years old when I got it. It was in mint condition though. I looveeddd it!

I was 15. I had been saving money and had a job and my parents agreed to match me dollar for dollar. 
My daughter will be 16 in october and I will do the same. I think she has about 12k saved up but she may not drain her account for a car.

I was given a car at 16. 2004 Toyota camry. I just replaced it last year with my own 2020 Traverse. If you go to a dealership and finance through them, try to get a price set BEFORE you have them run your credit score and all that for the finances that way they can't hike up the price based on that but you can possibly negotiate it down some more. Also shop around a bit and take your time looking at cars and dealerships. Don't go in expecting to walk out with a car the same day...do some looking around and research first.

I bought a old Chevy cavalier for $1,000 when I was 17ish. Then I financed a used Chevy tracker at 18 for $6,000 and it was a POS. After I paid it off at 22 years old I bought my first new car for $25,000 and 5 years later I still have that car I actually just paid it off a few weeks ago.
