What should I expect right after getting an IUD?

I got a copper IUD put in this past Thursday and I’m curious about what to expect the next few days, the doctor mentioned cramps and bleeding for 3-6 months but is that suppose to be consecutive days or off and on? I would like to have sex this weekend but I’m still bleeding some. Anyway I can stop it?

I have the Mirena IUD and I had spotting every single day for the first 2 months after insertion and then spotted every few days for my third month. Everyone has a different experience with it though so yours might not last as long! Unfortunately, I was never able to find any good tricks for getting it to stop and it sucks

Yup. That’s how it is for the first few months. No way to stop it

Update: I stopped bleeding by Saturday — so two days after I got it inserted. Still cramping here and there and still feel slightly uncomfortable. Not sure if I’m just being extra paranoid or what lol
