If you and your bf/husband make the same amount of money, ($18 a hour) how should the bills be distributed ? Should it be 50/50 or 80/20? For example in my relationship we both pay half on the rent ($570 a piece). We both pay our own car notes and insurance. I pay the light bill and he pays the cable (the water is included in our rent). Is this fair ??

50/50 sounds fair, 80/20 definitely doesn’t sound right. Why not just put your money all together?

That depends. Just my boyfriend everyone pays their own bills. When we got married we have a joint account where we pay our cars and health insurance from etc. And we each have personal accounts that we spend money on other things. I just lost some hours due to covid. I had 45 hours a week im now down to 17. We put our stimulus check in the joint so I could pay health insurance and other bills.

When both my husband and I had jobs we still shared the money. We are a team. Now I don’t have to worm because I’m a stay at home wife and he makes plenty of money, but we still share it and discuss purchases before making them. But it’s whatever works in your relationship

If you both make the same amount and want to split things, why would you do so evenly? Why should someone only get to keep 20% while the other person gets to keep 80% of thier money? That makes no sense
