Is hormonal birth control worth it?

I am very skeptical of basically any   birth control that is not a condom. Partly because I know I just don’t know a lot about it but it’s never set right with me sticking something in my body that doesn’t belong there originally (I think I’ve only ever used a tampon 3 times in my life. and changing my hormones around sounds scary to me too. lol that being said ever since having my girls I have had terrible periods! They are super heavy, intense cramps that make me have flash backs of labor 😩 and my cycles are not consistent Any more (anywhere from 28-32 days). My youngest is 9m and I know it takes your body up to a year to get Back to “normal” but this has being my life for about 3 years now. And I’ve just about had it! So idk if my hormones are so out of wack that the pill would help me but I’m honestly considering it. Anyone know how this work and if that could be my problem?

Many will disagree with me, but after much research I would never use hormonal birth control again. While it appears to "fix" many issues (why my doctor prescribed it to me as a teen,) it really only masks the symptoms of underlying problems. There are more natural ways to regulate periods, treat menstrual symptoms, endometriosis, etc. Unfortunately most doctors won't have that information unless they are more holistically minded.

I use to have horrible periods and cramps and getting on the pill was a complete life saver. Discuss your concerns with your doctor, might be good to write down a list of your questions so you don’t forget anything.

28-32 days is normal. 5 days variation is normal. 
That being said I love birth control. I could never trust condoms I had so much anxiety about them. I used Nuvaring for a bit and liked it and now I have an iud which is the best for me I love it. I want to get my tubes tied in the future but I plan on keeping my IUD too because I love it so much

If your periods suck, the pill could help a lot with regulating them and making them more bearable. You can always try it out and stop if you hate it. If you decide you want hormone-free, the copper IUD is an option too.

For me it wasn't worth it. The pill at least.
I find the IUD amazing, which only releases hormones in your womb, rather than like a pill you swallow that can go anywhere.
I got the IUD and it hasn't changed my symptoms like mood or acne, but my periods are way lighter! And fully protected from unwanted pregnancy. Like 99.98% effective.

The pill used to work for me in order to regulate my periods, mood swings, etc. I was on it for about 4 years. I have a slight hormone imbalance.  This caused me to have to switch pills every so often because it would stop working.
Then I had my daughter this year and my hormones changed big time! I tried to go on the pill and I had giant mood swings, feelings of mania, and major suicidal thoughts. I was only on them for 3 of 4 days when this happened and I had to stop. Whatever you do...make sure you ask someone to watch you/let you know if you are acting differently.  Luckily in my case I was very self aware and I told my husband to pay attention.

I've used the pill and the copper iud. I hated both. We used condoms because the unbearable symptoms I got from both just were not worth it. If/when we have our 3rd child I will get a partial hysterectomy and not have to worry about it anymore.

I used to have horrible cramps before I was on the pill- I'd have to take prescription strength doses of ibuprofen and use a heat wrap at the first drop of blood to be able to function.  If not I'd be miserable, and have to miss work and school because I felt so bad.
I didn't go on the pill until I was sexually active with my then-boyfriend. My periods were regular and manageable after that- I no longer had such severe cramping. I said for ages that I wish I would have been on the pill much sooner because of how beneficial it was to me. Honestly one worry I had going off the pill TTC was how bad my cramps might get again, but I've been off the pill for nine months and haven't had them.

I like the pill a lot. It makes my periods completely predictable, and I have confidence knowing I’m using a highly reliable form of birth control. If you like using condoms, there’s nothing wrong with sticking with them, but if you want to try the pill, there are several brands and dosages, so if you don’t like one you can try another. You can always stop taking it if you really don’t like it after a while. Many people also really like IUDs. My friend had really bad periods and her IUD has helped a lot. Your doctor can answer any questions you have and guide you to what might be best for you.
