What lengths should someone go to prevent harm or death to another?

Question

So reading the comments on the Thomas Lane post, I started wondering where the line is drawn on the lengths others should go to prevent harm or death to another person.
Loosing your job/career? Yes, 100%, my job is emergency management and it's my responsibility to limit injuries/deaths.
Injury to yourself? Depends, I'm currently pregnant so I may hesitate right now since a new life depends on me.
Death? Again, depends. I wouldn't risk death while pregnant. 
We have seen Mr. Flyod's death were Mr. Lane spoke up, but didn't take physical action. We have seen othe cops do nothing, while others have stepped in.
We have all seen protesters stepping in to assist those being injured, but have also seen where others just stand by and watch. 
This also reminded me of a post a while back on CC about not helping a vehicle in a snow bank because of a Trump decal. Those comments were divided, but some said they wouldn't even call for help. 
What lengths should someone go to prevent harm or death to another?

This is tough. Usually I have a heart like yours where I’d put my safety at risk to help a stranger. But since I’m pregnant, I think I’d hesitate just a bit. As a Black woman who does not consider herself a racist (yes Black folk can be racist too) nor a bigot, I’d like to think that I’d help a person in a snow bank trump sticker or not. I’d also like to believe that I’d help a person with a confederate flag sticker on their vehicle but that might be a lie.  For me, being so bold to bear that flag is a declaration of racism, complicitly passive or not, and that would honestly make me pause and think before I really risked my life for them. I’m sorry, just being honest whether you agree or not.
To me, that flag represents a time and culture that not only believed but explicitly behaved as though my Black life didn’t matter. Bc not only was it not equal to them in their opinions but as a person of color I did not exist in the most basically human ways. 
Trump supporters, while I don’t agree with them, don’t necessarily hate me. I can’t say the same for that flag bearer. 
So no I probly wouldn’t stop to help them bc I couldn’t trust the response, but I would probably still call for help for them.

Its case by case but if I could help someone safely and I knew they were racist or homophobic I would still help them. If I didnt then that would make me just as bad as them. As far as putting my life in danger no, calculated risks are important but you are no use to someone dead.

I think it's disgusting to say you wouldn't help save someone's life because of their beliefs. Are you implying through that that their life is worth less because of those beliefs? Who are we do decide whose lives are worth less than others? That's what Hitler did, and we can all agree that he was terrible. I'm not stretching to say if you wouldn't help someone who believed in Trump you're the same as Hitler. I am saying though that someone's beliefs should not prevent you from helping them. I'm appalled that so many people are saying that. I don't care if they support a president who is just overall a terrible human being. They deserve life as much as the next person.

It really depends. I'm not 100% sure I'd risk my own life, again depending (I mean not even professional rescue teams will risk their own lives). Especially if there's a chance the person you're helping will die anyway. I would definitely do my best though if I knew there wasn't a chance of death of severe disfigurement. Again depending who it is and what the situation is.

Putting your life at risk, no. But the likelihood of that being a life and death situation for Lane to physically stop is incredibly unlikely. He was physically fit, not incredibly smaller than him and they both had weapons.

Honestly, it would depend.
Let’s say it’s a situation like the snow bank thing. I would just call for help. So long as they’re not in any danger. I couldn’t care less about the fucking sticker. ESP if there’s children present 
Let’s say it’s a situation like Floyd’s. I would absolutely do everything in my power to stop what was happening even if it meant me being injured or going to jail. At the end of the day, I pay taxes. Taxes that go into the pockets of law enforcement to protect and serve me and my community. It is my right to hold them accountable. 
Let’s say I witness a fight break out. I’ll try to stop it because hello.. we’re adults here. But honestly if There’s a good enough reason for someone getting their ass beat and I witnessed that “reason”I’m not about to say or do shit🤷🏻‍♀️
