Not sure??

I'm 36 weeks 1 day and I've been having sharp pains in my behind and my lower back for the last hour, I'm not sure if it's from baby starting to engage or hes just lower now but having these pains since yesterday, I tried calling my labour ward but there was no answer.. they come for a few seconds and then go.. I'm a ftm so I'm not sure what to expect, also have been taking RLT since yesterday also..

Start timing them with a contractions app. If they are coming and going in a consistent pattern that is closer together and get stronger, most likely you’re in labor. Could be Braxton Hicks or prodromal contractions. I’ve been having these the past few days. Almost like backaches with period cramps. Uncomfortable but not enough to stop me in my tracks.

It could be back labor I would try going to the hospital and have them monitor you

With my first I was a few days from my due date and I was experiencing bleeding “ mucus plug” & and I kept getting sharp pains on my lower back. It started late at night and I had no clue that I was in labor since I expected them in the front of my stomach! It felt like dull, Sharp aches, they would come & go every 30 mins or so. In the morning they were closer apart, it felt like my back tightening up and then releasing, it was pretty uncomfortable and later on got painful. I decided to time them and they were 7 mins apart! So I headed to the hospital and I was already 6cm!! they told me I have contractions on my back! so could be or could honestly just be Braxton Hicks or baby moving down lower!
