“New federal Covid-19 nursing home data fraught with inaccuracies...” Why?

This is quite long, so bear with me! I’m curious why you think Covid-19 deaths are being both UNDERreported, and OVERreported. Do you think it’s innocent human error, or could there be another reason? Are you concerned about the inaccuracies? Does it make you trust the case count less?

The numbers everywhere are a mess.... honestly anyone who called China liars about their numbers should take a look in their own back yard.  
Just last week in my province they found 700 positive cases that were never reported (so the people were never even told they were positive) because two hospitals thought the other one was taking care of it.... 😑

The deaths they report are people who died WITH covid not of it. I don’t see how that wouldn’t skew the death rate and make it higher than it really is. Especially if they number of cases is underreported, the disparity would be even higher.

I think there was just so much panic and unpreparedness that everything had to be rushed. With every part of the process, there were overwhelming numbers. I’m sure a lot of things were miscounted because it was just such a panicked situation.

What I am about to say is really that ‘friend of a friend said’ kind of info, but my parent’s neighbor is a hospital surgeon and he said that when a person dies of Covid-19, the hospital is guaranteed funding (not related to health insurance) of $1k per patient as a minimum, and if they had to put a person on a ventilator that amount automatically goes up to a minimum of $40k.. he claims that he knows they have brought in a person (no health insurance) from a motorcycle accident and when they died the filed a covid claim.. he said that if the patient has no health insurance the facility is more inclined to try to get some kind of compensation one way or another so it makes sense in some cases that care facilities may be filing false claims... not to add to conspiracy theories, but I do believe my parents neighbor, who isn’t the type to make stuff up or talk about hospital corruption usually

I think theres needs to be a better system in place to determine deaths (all the way around) but I do worry very much about nursing homes.     There is one close to use (that is NOT top of the line) that our church goes to.  Or well we did before covid.  So we have a close relationship with many of the residents and i worry very much about them
