What laundry detergent do i get for a newborn ?

Im doing my shopping for my baby im not due till August but target gave me my 15% off coupon for my registry and i want to start washing his clothes early

We used this at first to be sure her newborn skin was protected. We had one bottle and it lasted us until she was about 7 months. Then we switched to the Arm & Hammer sensitive skin. It’s works great too.

We’re just using our regular detergent. Baby is going to be all over your clothes, bedding, etc so it doesn’t make sense to use a special detergent. I tried a sample pack of drift that I had and can’t stand how those clothes smell, it’s so strong

This is about as gentle and nontoxic as it gets. I also like Molly’s Suds. If you’re concerned about toxic chemicals, skin irritants, environmental pollutants, etc then you should check the EWG website for product recommendations. Biokleen laundry detergent has an “A” rating because it uses completely safe ingredients. We use this for all of our laundry and I wash my son’s clothes with our clothes. 
If you’re not concerned about cancer or reproductive issues, and you’re only concerned with avoiding skin irritations, then pretty much any “free and clear” laundry soap will work. When my son was 2 months we visited our in laws so I had to use my MILs laundry soap (All free and clear) and my son did fine. Added fragrance, even the fragrance in Dreft and other “baby” detergent is usually what causes skin, eye, throat, etc irritations. However, just because it doesn’t appear to give your baby a rash doesn’t mean it’s safe. Always check the ingredients and try to go as natural as possible. One bottle of Biokleen usually lasts me several months even though I do at least 2 loads of laundry a day because you only need to use a tiny bit of detergent per load.

I have sensitive skin, so I already used free and clear detergent for our clothes. I also use it for baby clothes, and we haven’t had any issues. I’ve always heard the baby detergents are just a ploy to get people to spend extra money for no reason. Arm and Hammer actually has one now that’s scented, but still for sensitive skin. We didn’t have any issues with that one either.
