Wait...what?!

My bf bought this for himself, he’s not vegan. Can someone explain to me how this is dairy free?! Am I not understanding?! How are they able to sell this

They processed the s#!t out of milk so it’s no longer milk, just pieces of it. 
The claims that food marketers are allowed to make on the front of their packages have laws & regulations that are pretty ambiguous. When they say “no sugar added” for example, they can still add things like sucrose, sucralose, fruit concentrated and other forms of sugar that ARE sugar, just not the typical “refined sugar” 🙄
Always read the ingredients, those are a bit more regulated, but there can still be loopholes. 
Example: a can of green beans says ingredients: beans, water. But if they bought that water from a source who loaded it with salt, sugar, and preservatives, they don’t have to disclaim that since they didn’t add anything to the water, they just bought “water”. Nor do they include the BPA used in can liners or if their aluminum is food-grade or seeping into the can... There is a LOT more that goes into packaged and processed foods than companies will disclaim.

My BF and I are vegan and he tried to buy these and I literally had to research what the fuck milk protein was lol. I think it should qualify as false advertising but this is also why you always read the ingredients on products that dont have the vegan symbol!

It's dairy free, not non dairy so it's still a milk product. Dairy free usually contains milk proteins

"Non dairy" is different than "dairy free". My understanding is non dairy means it doesn't contain milk, cream, etc in its full form, such as this or regular coffee creamers. They still contain milk PRODUCTS, but no "actual" milk. Dairy free means it contains no trace of dairy products whatsoever. One of those little legal things that most people don't pay attention to, but those of us who avoid or can't have dairy DESPISE.

Milk protein is not milk. It’s just the proteins found in milk. Milk protein is good for people or are lactose intolerant and can’t have lactose that is found in milk. But the protein in milk is good for building muscles. 
You’ll be amazed at how many dairy products we think are dairy but have are not dairy. Coffee creamers are the biggest one

Non-dairy is different than vegan. It doesn’t look like it’s certified vegan anywhere, but it is still misleading.
