If you grew up as an only child, did you like not having siblings?

My husband and I are trying to decide whether or not to add one more little to our family. Lots of factors to consider and we want to do what’s best! Want to see what only children think about not having siblings. Thanks so much!

I’m an only child.
I would have loved siblings, especially now as an adult. Sucks knowing I’ll have to make the hard decisions for my parents on my own in the future. 
It was pretty lonely growing up. Vacations would have been more fun with siblings to play with.
I see the bond my two kids have now and it makes me so happy. Working on my third baby now!
I love the idea of a big family!!

It’s so hard to say bc like if you’ve never had siblings, you don’t really know what you’re missing or not missing out on. I’m an only child and according to my mom I only asked for a sibling like once, but largely I was very content with being by myself. I was very imaginative and played alone but I also had friends in the neighborhood I played with too. 
The only times I wish I had siblings were when we would go on vacation and I would be alone, mostly when I got older and was more shy and had more trouble making friends easily. But siblings are also a roll of the dice- would it be cool to have a sister or brother I was close with? Sure. Would I wanna risk being stuck with a shitty sibling instead? Nah. I’m fine being an only child.

Ugh! I want my husband to read these! I desperately want a second child, so that my daughter can have a companion. But he’s not on board. He hates paying the daycare bills. Neither of us liked the baby stage. And right now our house is not big enough for 2 kids (we want to build a bigger house but can’t afford to yet, and he doesn’t want to move in the meantime). I’ve also thought how lonely a vacation would be for our daughter if she was an only child. It just makes me so sad to think that she might be an only child if I can’t convince him 😢

My father is an only child and made me and my brother promise to get more than one child if we were to ever get children. He is now all alone with two really sick parents, both mentally ill and physically ill. And they have been sick in one way or another since he was a teen, and it was too late for them to get more kids.

My brother and I are 8 years apart but lived in different homes until I was 14, so my childhood I was an only child pretty much. I LOVED it. I did have cousins my age to play with pretty often. But I was content by myself. When I moved in with my mom at 14 and my brother was there I hated it lol. We never got along and I was always babysitting. Even now that he’s 17 and I’m 25 he annoys me😂 I think both has its perks. My husbands kids are only 16 months apart and they’re pretty close. They’re very social though, I wasn’t as a kid. I probably would’ve hated having a sibling growing up. I’m currently pregnant and this will be our only child together. My step kids are 12 and 13 so his childhood will be mostly just him as well.

Im not technically an only child. But I my only sibling was 13 years older than me and moved out when I was only 4 (almost 5) and I obviously barely remember him being there. So ever since then I was the only child. Growing up I got bullied for being an only child because it somehow made me privileged and a poster child. I was called spoiled and lucky to be the only child. I hated it. Because most people i knew had at least 1-2 siblings. It was also very lonely. I felt super alone being the only kid. Yeah siblings fight and sometimes act like they hate each other. But it’s also good to have someone that’s always there. I hated being alone and I constantly was because no one liked to talk to me. All I ever wanted was a sibling. And everyone who has them always takes them for granted and say they wish they were like me or that they love how quite my house is. But they don’t realize how lonely the quietness is. And we didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up so it’s not like I was actually spoiled. I got just as much as everyone else did. So I would suggest having at least one sibling for your child. It helps with development and character. And they’ll learn faster and learn sharing skills and socializing it’ll help them mature faster also having someone who’s already gone through stuff help them. But not be too much older so they can relate easier. It helps with bonding skills. So I say do it.

In my case I was only child for a long time then sisters came and the age gap was too big - also my parents were abusive so the fewer kids they had the better
