Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy

Rebecca

I had these two procedures done today because my RE suspected endometriosis, and I wanted to post my experience. I had to be there two hours early for all the prep (preg test, starting iv, multiple rounds of covid questions, medical history, etc). They started anesthesia at 730am, but I passed out before they even finished fining me the anesthesia. I don’t even remember leaving the prep room. I was out from 730am to nearly 1230 when I woke up in the recovery room. And holy pain and nausea! They gave me a dose of fentanyl for the pain which amplified the nausea, so they gave me zofran. I ended up being on the recovery side for nearly 3 hours so they could stabilize my breathing and oxygen levels. (Not sure why this happened, but they just monitored me and made sure I took deep breaths). Around 1pm I got moved to the pre-discharge side where I proceeded to stay nauseous and hot, and pas out a few times. Around 2pm, I actually started feeling somewhat okay, but still a little nauseous. The nurse helped me walk a bit and go to the bathroom to pee. FYI - peeing after a catheter is SO painful. Definitely was not prepared for that! I was finally able to get dressed and be discharged around 3pm.

My insurance covered 80% of the procedures, so my out of pocket cost is $881 for the hospital and $231 for my RE who did the surgery. The hospital portion without insurance was almost $9000, so I am VERY thankful for my insurance today!

As far as the endo, he told my husband that my right tube was “redder” which may have been endo, but he went ahead and cleared it. Turns out my main problem was a bunch of cysts. Including one cyst that was adhering my left tube to my uterus. So now both tubes are clear, and the cysts are gone!

Now I’m just laying in bed trying to eat some saltines and gatorade and resting. Hope this helps someone else!
