Positive ovulation test after 3 months with no period? (Not pregnant)

I have very irregular periods and have not had one in over 3 months. I started spotting about 4 days ago - which made me think I was getting a period - then the spotting stopped. I took a pregnancy test which was negative and then I took an ovulation test which was positive. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? I’m confused if I am actually ovulating or not?
