Can I be responsible if a car is under my name and someone does something stupid in it? UPDATE

Question

So one of my close friends wants to buy a truck and is asking me if I can put it under my name but use his address. Now if he does something stupid or just anything like get tickets would that come back to me? Will I be responsible for it?
Btw I live in California

Why can’t he have the vehicle in his own name? I’m guessing its to make it look like he has no assets to avoid repossession which is definitely fraud, which you would be a party to. So on top of receiving any penalties from driving offenses your friend commits, the only way to get out of those would be to admit to the fraud. 🙅🏼‍♀️

I mean where I am if a car in in your name the insurance needs to be as well. So therefor if that’s the case where you are you’d be (or at least your insurance) would be liable. 
Also if they stack up speeding or parking tickets and the car is registered to you it can cause you to have to pay them before you can sticker your car or renew your own license. 
If it’s a car loan in your name and they promise to make payments on it and they don’t. It screws up your credit.

If he gets a parking ticket or something where the cop doesn’t stop him and all they have is a pic of the tag (if the tags in your name, and it probably will be since the car is in your name) you will be responsible for it. You will also be responsible for it if he chooses not to pay for it or is even late on a payment. I never recommend putting a car in your name and letting someone else drive it because you may be responsible but the person you trusted to not ruin your credit may not be.
