Does continuous breastfeeding get easier?

Anyone who breastfed have the issue where their child was on the breast all day everyday due to shallow latch? Did it improve or did you have to stop breastfeeding? He has an issue with his latch being shallow because he just had a tongue tie revised at 4 weeks old. He literally will fall asleep at the breast and then wake up five minutes later hungry again. It's a 24 hour cycle but maybe someone else had this and it improved? We're working with an IBCLC but it's just difficult to not know if there will be an end to this or if I'm putting him through breastfeeding for nothing.

Additional optional reading: When he was a week old he did this where he was constantly at the breast but because his suction was so weak and his latch shallow he ended up losing weight and they recommended he be bottle fed with pumped milk instead. So he's just now getting back to breast Friday and it's been extremely difficult. I'm worried he is going to lose weight again.
