If you’re drinking a normal 4-5 oz glass you do not have to wait. If you’re sober enough to drink it is safe to breastfeed. It takes about 30 minutes for alcohol to reach breastmilk and it leaves the same rate it leaves the bloodstream. The beat time to actually nurse would be when you start drinking your glass because you’d be finished nursing before the alcohol is metabolized and by the time baby needs to eat again it would be out of your system.

Please don’t buy into the “if ur safe to drive ur safe to nurse” nonsense. Especially if u have a high tolerance. A similar situation was just posted yesterday...the woman “felt fine” but her baby got sick and was throwing up from the alcohol content because she didn’t wait to nurse. I can drink 5 drinks and feel fine to drive, but just because I’m not drunk doesn’t mean it’s not in my breastmilk. The suggestion is to wait a couple hours for the alcohol from one drink to leave ur system.

The “if you’re sober enough to drive, you’re sober enough to feed” argument doesn’t seem solid to me. I have a very high alcohol tolerance. I believe I’d trust the test strips you can get to check your milk before I’d trust that rule. There are also charts and equations and whatever out there where you can say you had x number of this specific drink, and it tells you approximately how long it’ll be in your system.

If you're sober enough to drive you can nurse. Others recommend starting you drink whe. You feex baby and wait 2 hrs till the next feeding since the alcohol peaks in your breastmilk around 60-90 minutes. But one drink for me does nothing an I feel comfortable nursing at any time. If I have more than that I will wait to nurse
