Induction but no problems?

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and am not dilated and not having any contractions. My doctor said if I don't have her by the due date she wants to schedule me for an induction. I am not having any issues whatsoever. Bp and urine are fine, and I don't have gd. I am just wondering whats the big deal about going past your due date? I would really rather not be induced because I've heard it's alot more painful.

You can technically go to 41w. 
Anything after that makes it dangerous as the baby gets larger- more so because the baby can get too big to come out and risks c section. 
Technically you can say no to being induced that early though

If you don’t have a medical reason, I wouldn’t agree to an induction. It is more painful. Doctor can’t make you. Do what’s best for you.

My doctor will not let me go past 41 weeks, because at that point, there is an increased risk of both emergency c section and stillbirth.

Some offices let you go to 42.  I would ask for why.  Some docs do it for their convenience...

My doctor with my first pregnancy did "let" me go past 40 weeks and a day with my daughter. He said if I didnt go into labor naturally I would be scheduled for induction. Some doctors don't like going over because of certain risk factors but at the end of the day its YOUR decision. If you want to go till 41 weeks then they cant make you have an induction. I opted out of the induction and told my doctor I wanted to let her come naturally on her time. however, at 39 weeks and 6 days I was in the hospital on morphine for excessive migraines and ended up being induced anyway. My cervix was not favorable at all its was high hard and closed all of my induction till the very end after about 12 hours. Thankfully when I did progressed I progressed very quickly and was able to have her vagimally with no complications but doctor was pushing for c section and I said no. Ultimately its ur say. Follow ur gut!

There's no problem with going past your due date as long as you keep an eye on your health and baby. Early term is 37 to 39 weeks, full term is 39 to 41 weeks, 41 to 43 is late term (some go by 41 to 42 for late term). It's not until after 42 weeks that induction starts becoming more medically necessary but most people will go into labour before then naturally. My MIL went at 42 weeks every pregnancy and was never induced, she just naturally carried a bit longer.

Per ACOG, you can go to 42+6 as long as you and baby are healthy. You don’t have to agree to an induction. Let baby come on it’s own

As your placenta ages it can become dangerous to stay pregnant as it can stop working that is the biggest risk going past your due day.

I’m in the exact same boat right now. As of Tuesday not effaced or dilated. Doctors say they will let me get to 40 weeks and 5 days before inducing me!

I think some doctors are opting to induce so much right now because of COVID.
