Is it ok to have sex when you have an ovarian cyst?

A year ago my ex and I had sex and when I orgasmed an unknown cyst I had ruptured, that created a lesion and internal bleeding. As you can imagine that whole experience was traumatic. As a result I was also put on birth control.

Recently I got severe sharp pains in my uterine area that wouldn’t go away for about a week. It did not feel like a period and there was no blood. So i went to my ob and lo and behold there was another cyst on my ovary, about 2.5 cm big.

I’m so infuriated and anxious because I though my birth control was supposed to control the cysts. And I’m terrified to have sex with my current boyfriend because I don’t want to wind up in emergency surgery again.

Please help!
