Is 5 days before missed period too soon to tell? I got a negative result. :\

Yes. It's MUCH to early in my opinion! At 9DPO you'll get a neg. HPT anyway because HCG is not earlier than 10-11DPO in urine - IF you are pregnant! So please be patient and wait until AF is late - than retest!
