Has anyone ever been on the shot for birth control? I want to get on it. Did you gain weight? What were your side effects? Any help?

I am on the depo shot. I'm basically forced to be on it because I have terrribllleee cramps without birth control. I can't be on the pill because I'm constantly on antibiotics. But there's pros and cons to the shot. I love that I don't have to worry about a period(lucky) and don't have to worry about taking a pill every night/missing it/ getting pregnant like how I was worried on the pill. The cons are my mood swings are so terrible I take a lot of them out on my boyfriend but I'm working through it. I think I'm just adapting to them and maybe they're wearing off. My sex drive is also super low and me and my boyfriends sex drive used to be awesome and it's kinda depressing how I have to force myself to be turned on because I do want to have sex but I just can't get into it. I would suggest if symptoms aren't terrible to try it for 6 months for your body to adapt to it. Good luck!

Screws your hormones up if you decide to go off it. It will take a year for your hormones to go back to normal. I was 115 lbs when I started the shot and gained about 50 lbs. I do NOT suggest the shot to any woman!!

I love my depo shot! I don't get a heavy period, just spotting. And also no cramps or bad PMS. The first shot I got, I was very moody and annoyed at everything. But after your body gets use to it, you should be feeling like yourself. I haven't gained any weight since being on it. I'm due for my 3rd shot this December. Best of luck

I never personally took it. But my friend did and she gained a lot of weight. :( she was very small beforehand too. Not that she's fat now, but still can see a difference obviously

So far I'm on my first shot and nothing bad has happened to me I lost my periods I read how it makes you gain weight but I've lost about nine pounds on it i guess it's really different for everyone

I'm on the depo shot and I haven't had a period sense. Some people gain a few pounds but not a lot. Some people though can be on an extended period. It is really a hit or miss. You try it and see if your a lucky one or not. Good luck!
