Was IVF your only option for MFI (male factor infertility)?

Specifically, low sperm count. We haven’t been able to even try ovulation drugs or anything. If you feel comfortable sharing, what was your experience?

Hi! We were diagnosed MFI because my husband has low testosterone which causes low sperm count. My husband had 4 million sperm the first time he was tested and 16 million the second time within a few months. He added Fertilaid vitmins and that seemed to help but unfortunately not enough. Our RE said he didn't want to waste our time with IUIs so we went right to IVF with ICSI to better our chances and it worked for us. Feel free to ask me anything!

We saw a urologist and all of my husbands numbers were low (count, motility and mobility). He was put on medication to try to improve them and had testing done but ultimately we couldn’t find the cause and medications didn’t help.  They said ivf with icsi will be our only option so we will likely do that in the next year.  Best of luck to you!

Icsi was our only option but I guess it depends on how severe the MFI is. My husband has low everything but his count was in the 100 thousands which is really really really bad.

Ovulation drugs wouldn’t be on the table for male factor because the issue is his sperm, not your cycle function. Putting you on drugs for that wouldn’t help with the MFI. There are some cases of MFI where supplements and meds for the men have worked. 
We started with IUI. My husband had under 5 mill for each sample and low motility. We did 2 failed IUIs before moving to IVF, and if our insurance had let us we would have just skipped IUI because of how low the success rate still is. They felt like a waste of time once we finally started the IVF, but we were over the wait and the try and see and wanted our BEST chance at success by that time.
