Going off depo shot

I was supposed to get my second dose on June 24th. I decided to not get it because of the irregular spotting. I had been bleeding for over a month. I decided to get on the pill the same day since they say that it usually helps to regulate the bleeding. The bleeding hasnt stopped but since 3 days ago i have been having really bad cramps and my bleeding is very heavy like a normal period. Can it probably be my menstrual cycle already coming back??
