Are you aware that g*psy is a slur? If not will you continue to use it?

The word g*psy has been used against Romani women specifically as a derogatory term. Its use has historically been negative and in places like the UK is still holds a heavily negative tone. Yet it's a word that many American young women use to describe themselves, everything from clothing labels, instagram handles and shop names. Its used in the USA to describe someone as "free spirited" and the kind of person who uses it reminds me of hashtags from young women with flower crowns at Coachella, despite the history of abuse and violence towards Romani women. I learned that it was a slur about 10 years ago and have not used the word since. Did you know it was a slur? If not, how do you feel about using the word now that you know it's a slur?
