MIL bought this swim floaty which cost a whopping $160!!! My son is not a fan obviously but she insists that we use it. He doesn't have any range of movement and can't reach out to splash which is his favourite part of swimming. What do I do?

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t care how much MIL or any family member spends on my child. If he doesn’t like it he ain’t gonna use it... no way will I force something onto my kid 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aw his face! He just wants to splash! Like another person said, just use it while you’re MIL is there. 160 is outrageous!! Was the price inflated because of Covid?! Maybe try and buy him another float where he sits down in the water more. I got this one off of Amazon for $30. It comes with a sunshade too I just didn’t put it on that time.

I would just be straight with her, tell her he doesn't like it and she should return it since it was expensive and maybe you guys can pick a replacement together? I had to do this with a push car my mom purchased. The car wasn't of good quality, there were missing pieces and she fell out of it because there was no belt. I called my mom and told her and she was furious AT THE CAR, not me lol so I gave her the car back and she ordered a new one which is MUCH better and my daughter loves it.

Maybe show him he can splash with his feet? You could also put some water toys on it he can splash with. 
If it were me... haha I would just say “oh well, thank you for thinking of him, but he doesn’t like it, hopefully you have the receipt.” My ILs are sooooo pushy about literally everything I have taught myself saying no is OKAY. Your kid doesn’t like something, it is very hard to get them to like something when they’ve decided they don’t. And he also shouldn’t have to.

Did she tell you it cost $160 ? Because I was looking at one that looks exactly like this on amazon for $70, so I hope she’s not just trying to guilt you into feeling like you HAVE to use it because that’s just not right

My son isn't a fan of the baby floaties either. Maybe when she's around use it for the first 10 or so minutes then exclaim your baby needs to learn to splash and kick and just hold him?
