Pain meds?

Question

I have never had a vaginal birth so I was wondering do they send you home with pain meds do you get pain meds after having the baby? Or is it only with c sections!? I am not a junkie or pill head but it makes me nervous since I haven’t done it and don’t wanna be judged upon asking.

I definitely recommend making sure you have a stool softener on hand. Those first few poops post birth are uncomfortable.

They send you home with instructions to take Tylenol and Motrin on a schedule for a bit. 
They might give you a prescription for a higher dose ibuprofen.

No they don't. However they usually say you can take Tylenol or something similar.

Some do some dont. Mine didn’t and it hurt but was tolerable.

I had a very painful birth and really bad tearing. I was sent home with something similar to Vicodin I believe. I ended up back in the ER a few days postpartum because the pain was unbearable, but then again my entire lady area was reconstructed back together. I believe they ended up giving me Percocet even though I was breastfeeding. I am pretty sure my situation is rare and most women have better birthing stories. I literally still hurt and ached for over 2 months. I really hope you just need over the counter stuff. Fingers crossed for a smooth delivery!

They have me a high dose of ibuprofen, and offered a narcotic, but I declined. I had a third degree tear though, and I’m the only person I know who was offered a pain prescription! I haven’t had a c-section, but I’ve heard pain and healing are much faster and easier after a vaginal birth. It’s kinda amazing how the body knows how to heal itself.

I've had three births. They sent me home with a prescription for ibuprofen and tylenol 3 for my first birth. With my second, they sent me with tramadol and ibuprofen. But then when I was making sure the tramadol was fine with breastfeeding, the pharmacist said not to take that shit while breastfeeding because it would interfere with my baby's breathing! Just one of many fuck-ups they did during my second birth. With my third, they sent me a prescription for ibuprofen. 
I've had three really rough, traumatic births though. The hospital I give birth at only sends you prescription medication for c-sections and unusually  rough vaginal births. I got them because my first was a forceps birth, my second a vacuum birth with 3 failed epidural attempts, and my third was unassisted but also had 3 failed epidural attempts that left my back in a lot of pain.

My doc gave me two prescriptions... one for colace and one for extra strength ibuprofen for after I deliver.

My hospital sent me home with a scrip for heavy duty ibuprofen, some stool softener and a whole stack of instructions on what I can take OTC.

No pain meds besides motrin. I didn't need any, though, except for postpartum cramps.  There likely will just be some vaginal tenderness, not necessarily pain.
