Married for insurance?

Has anyone else got married solely based on having insurance? It’s a panic thing for me I haven’t wanted to get married just because we’re having a baby, but now it seems like one of the only options.

I didn't care if my husband and I were going to get married. I had really crappy insurance when I got pregnant and he had an amazing insurance, so we got married. Nothing wrong with it if you are in a committed relationship.

Can you do a courthouse wedding for the sake of covering you and the baby and then still (someday) have the wedding you want? I don't think anybody should fault you for trying to be financially responsible regarding the very large hospital bills you know you will be facing.

Well you guys definitely make me feel better about the whole situation. I originally was on state insurance, because of my job, and not being offered any. I just got a bill in the mail because the insurance won’t cover the babe. I’m stuck between what I always thought I wanted and the legality of all of it. I guess I just didn’t want to feel so alone asking.

I almost did that. We were planning to get married anyway but almost did it earlier for insurance purposes. Ultimately decided a court wedding wasn’t for me, but it’s definitely a valid concern!

When I got engaged it was July and we wanted a winter wedding but couldn’t get everything we wanted for that winter so we planned for the next. I ended up getting into an accident not hurt but scared it happened not having health insurance so we decided to elope before our wedding. His uncle is a magistrate and married is then he married us again on the same day a year later. Only a few people knew bot even our whole bridal party and it was fun having the wedding on what was really our first anniversary.
