Honestly!

Best contraception I ever was on.

I had mine out last Friday because we’re now TTC.

Pros: non hormonal, meaning no stupid weight gain, water retention, potential of breast cancer etc. No vile mood swings, just the odd normal moody day, no excessive bloating, no potential to affect your normal cycles, no worrying that it could ruin your fertility later. Doesn’t effect your skin or hair and no need to Wien off it if you’re wanting to conceive. Your normal fertility resumes. Lasts 5 years (well mine was) and no need to remember to take a pill etc! 99% effective.

Cons: your periods are crampier and heavier!

Especially the first two, and are longer.

You do spot a bit more, usually around ovulation and for a day or two prior to your period.

It hurts going in. Like a really bad period pain and is crampy for about 3 hours after. I had it fitted at 9am and was in work (teaching in a salon) for 1pm with a heat patch on my belly and back but was totally fine!

When I got it out. It didn’t hurt, it was a “oh is that it?” Moment.

For me the cons out weighed the pros!

I googled it to an inch of its life prior and then for my first two periods because I’d read about girls having it out because they where so painful. But honestly nothing nuerofen couldn’t fix and a hot bath!

You are meant to check your strings just before each period to see if it’s still in place, I rarely remembered and occasionally my fella would be like oh I felt your coil this time. So I was like well it must be fine 😂

You don’t feel it at all and not during sex. He occasionally felt it, usually with his fingers, and usually just before my period when my cervix was low. After about two months the coils curl and it really isn’t noticeable at all!
