18 and pregnant? Help please!

Question

So I just recently found out I’m pregnant and I had a few questions...
Do I just call my usual family doctor and ask for a prenatal appointment? 
If I do go to my family doctor, she can’t tell anyone I’m pregnant right? My mom goes to her and so do my brothers and i would be heartbroken if I couldn’t tell them myself. 
I’ve never been to an obgyn so do I just ask for referrals while I’m at my prenatal?

Ok you are beyond old enough to go to an obgyn. You really should have started going before becoming sexually active. But anyway, I would skip the family doc and just look up some obgyn’s in your area. Find one that has good reviews, you’re looking for reviews that say things like “Dr soandso was so caring” etc. you want to find one that will make you feel comfortable going, because you will need to go multiple times until delivery, and even afterwards. Typically you end up going about once a month until you get to the end of your third trimester and they’ll have you go every two weeks and then every week or so.
You should not need a referral to go to a regular obgyn. Referrals are typically just for specialists. No doctor in America is legally allowed to share anything regarding your medical history with anyone unless you expressly allow it on a signed form or unless you are a minor. Your secret is safe with them!

You can google OBGYN who accept your insurance. Anything you tell your dr is protected by law (unless you tell them you’re going to hurt someone or yourself )

I just googled OBJYN in my city ( and who accepted my insurance)  and called . I didn't have to go through my primary doctor :)

No your doctor isn't allowed to say anything. Unless you are putting yourself or someone else in harm it is called patient-doctor confidentiality.

Check to make sure your file states that your parents can not be notified of what’s in your medical file. There is a form you sign that says who can and can not be told about your conditions or medications, and things like that. If you allowed your parents to know in the past and have not changed it then they could call and legally be given any information they ask for. 
So when you go to your first appointment make sure to tell the nurse that you to make sure your parents don’t have access to your medical information.
