How much money did you save up for your first apartment?

So i had $3,000 saved up & than covid happened and i lost my job due to it & ive had to pay bills and what not so I clearly have to start saving money all over again but I was wondering how much money you should typically save before you start looking for an apartment? I have to buy a car first so im not really in a huge rush to look for an apartment just an estimate !!

It depends on how much the apartments in your area cost, most need first and last months rent up front and it also doesn't hurt to have your own savings for an emergency fund in case something happens (like COVID). $1000 is a good starter emergency fund and even better is at least 3 months salary if you lost your job you would be stable for 3 months.

I think it depends what apartment you get. I only saved up $600 and that’s including the pet deposit for my dog to move in too.

Depends on cost of the apartment. You usually have to pay first and last months rent plus a deposit. So whatever they charge (say like $700 per month for rent) multiply it times 3 and that's usually the average cost
