Ovulation Test Question

Hi ladies, long story short, we are trying for our second and since having our first my cycles have been sooooo irregular making ovulation tracking extremely hard and never getting that magical smiley face......anyway my question is (and sorry for TMI) but I have been doing ovulation tests for last 4 days and nothing, my husband and I had sex last night and then this morning we woke up and I did an ovulation test and got a smiley face.....is this a true smiley face or does the presence of semen affect the hormone level?
