Advice needed please !!!!!

So I’ve been debating with my parents about my future baby’s last name. They want me to give my baby my last name, but I only want my baby to have my boyfriends last name. We’re not married but if I add my last name I feel like it’s too long. Anyone know if you’re required to give your baby both last names?. They’re concerned he might try taking my baby away from me in the future and with the baby only having his last name I will not be able to to anything about it.
