What would you do?

My husband lost his insurance end of last month and I'm currently trying to get our family on my employer's insurance. It's been a whole ordeal, but we still don't technically have coverage right now and I'm supposed to have my first Dr appt for baby next Tuesday. If I don't have insurance by then, I'll have to pay out of pocket for the appointment. I'm so anxious to make sure baby is doing okay, but not sure I want to spend $500+ for peace of mind. What would you do? Go and pay the price or wait and reschedule when insurance kicks in?
Disclaimer: I understand many people would not even have a choice to be able to afford that. I am speaking from a place of privilege.

I completely understand your dilemma. I have a midwife that we’re paying out of pocket. If I were you though, I would wait and reschedule once the insurance kicks in. I’m not sure how far along you are but I don’t have my first visit until Monday when I’m 10 weeks. If you need peace of mind before then, I’d recommend a private scan to see the baby. It’s cheaper than your appt would’ve been. I did that as well. Best of luck to you!

If you have filled the papers for insurance coverage. It should be as long as you get approved for the insurance all doctor appointments and all can get charged to the insurance after approval. But you can not claim stuff from before you filled the paper work

I could be incorrect in saying this but it’s worth asking the insurance company. It might be possible if you are able to get on your employers insurance that they would provide insurance retroactively to the day you lost coverage. When I’ve lost a job and had to switch insurance to my husbands it was retroactive to the day I lost coverage on my own even though it took a couple weeks to get me on his insurance. If you do pick up new insurance make sure there isn’t a preexisting condition clause that would deem your pregnancy as preexisting and not provide coverage. I think pregnancy might be excluded from this condition by law but I would still double check. Good luck!

If you ask them what a cash payment would be usually it a discount. You could call first and see the cost if you paid cash.

Hey! I would probably wait for the insurance to kick in. In my area there’s a baby theater where you can go and I think ultrasounds are between $100-$200. Maybe you could something like that to ease your mind while you wait.
