Is it wrong to walk away and say fine when your toddler tells you they don’t want you and to go away?

Question

My 2.5 year old has been struggling since I had my baby a month ago. He has been getting mad then telling me that he doesnt love me or want me. He says to go away. I have been coddling him left and right and telling him how much I love him. 
Last night he got into trouble, and he said this and i had enough so I said okay and just got up and left the room. He fell asleep in the bed with his dad. 
Apparently he fell asleep upset cause he felt bad and was sad cause I left. My husband said a mother doesn’t do that and I should have talked to him. 
I tried, but when I tried he just yelled over me saying he doesn’t want me. So I just said fine and left

I do this to my 4 year old. He gets upset and says go away. So I go away. He approaches me when hes ready to and we talk about it, or he cuddles me and says sorry. 
I find nothing wrong with it. Its also a food teaching moment. You need space ill give it to you. But dont say things you dont mean and are gunna end up upset about after you spoke from anger.

I think de-escalating the situation is better. 🤷‍♀️ But then having a conversation later about why he feels the way he does/says those things so you can better understand.

I would just tell him ok I am leaving but I love you and when you are ready come get me. 
That way he knows your still there for him but are giving him the space he wants

If it happens again, maybe leave for a few minutes and go back, when he calms down. Honestly new babies are hard on toddlers. Can dad take the baby so you can go play with him, just the two of you? Maybe go on a walk with him? Spending some extra time with him right now, just you two might help

I dont understand why your husband thinks that you can talk logically rationalize with an upset toddler. If anything it was his job to calm him down and then explain to him that if he is mean and tells mama to go away, that her feelings will be hurt and that he cant tell mama to "go away"  and be upset when mama goes away. 
I dont think you're in the wrong at all. He is at the age where he will learn from natural consequences. Tell mom to go away and then mom will not stay to take the toddler abuse. She will go away. So we use nice words if we want love and if you use mean words, feelings get hurt. It is what it is. It's a life lesson. If anything you're teaching him how to appropriately talk to his mother.

I mean he’s 2...they don’t know how to control their anger or even understand how they are feeling. Best thing to do was calm him down, be gentle & talk to him in a calm voice. Not walk away or wait til later to have a talk. Waiting until later is pointless because he has done forgot about the situation.
