Rant (Not Baby Related)
I had started a new job in March of 2020. I loved my job a lot and then in May I was informed that I was being laid off due to COVID related budget cuts. My last day of work was June 12th. So I applied to unemployment and I have been applying for jobs every single day. I received one phone call my last week of working, which was early June. I went in for an interview and I thought it went well. I didn’t even up hearing back from them, so I figured I didn’t get it. I kept applying for jobs left and right. Everyday I applied to anything and everything that I could. I never received any phone calls. I was starting to get scared that I wasn’t going to find anything before the extra unemployment ended. So fast forward to this week I finally got a call from that job I had interviewed at and they offered me a position.
Now onto the rant. I believe that healthcare and front line workers should be receiving extra pay. Hopefully it will happen for them soon. I have a problem with everyone who continually says that people on unemployment need to get a job or they’re being lazy and not getting jobs. Yes, there are jobs out there. Most of those jobs are minimum wage and will not cover most people’s bills. Especially someone like me who was making higher than minimum wage. Yes, some people are using the extra unemployment as an excuse but most aren’t. I just can’t stand the ignorance in this. People did not choose to be laid off or to have their jobs taken away, yet they’re called lazy even while trying.
Sorry for the rant :)
