FTM - When to go to the hospital?

Question

So I don’t want to go prematurely and be sent home. My water has not broken (which would be an obvious sign to go) but I did lose quite a bit of my mucus plug this morning with a bit of blood. Since this afternoon I have had contractions and they are currently only lasting about 30 seconds and are about 5-7 minutes apart. 
Every once in a while they come closer, but then space out again.

I was in the same boat yesterday as I lost my plug. I was having consistent contractions 1min long and 8 mins apart all day long.... then they stopped. 
From everything I have read and been told. It’s best to go in when the contractions are 1min long and 5 mins apart, with increasing pain with each contraction. Once you hit the point where you can’t talk and you have to solely focus on contractions, then that’s when you should call and go in.

I was induced with my first so I had no idea what it felt like to actually go into labor. With this baby I started to have what I realIzed were contractions 10 minutes apart lasting 40 seconds to a minute around 7 pm so I relaxed showered checked my bag etc and called L&D at about 11 pm. They told me it sounded like prelabor and to call them back when it got worse. Well they continued all night 10 min apart til I got up at 4 am and they all of a sudden got incredibly intense and fast. I got to the hospital at 5:15 and when they got me upstairs told me I was already 7 cm dilated and there wasn’t time for an epidural... FML... well thank god it was quick he was born at 630 am weighing 8 pounds. I never ever wanted to go through labor without the epidural. Wish I knew how much pain you were supposed to be in before you could come to the hospital 🤷🏼‍♀️ just glad it was fast and my sweet boy is here now. I would def go in earlier next time but again, I had no idea!!!

I went in with contraction lasting a minute or more at around 3.5-4 mins apart and was still sent home after 4 hours with no progress in L&D. After I had to breathe and moan through contractions for 5 more hours at home is when they finally let me back in. Maybe it depends on the hospital.
