TMI: Hymenal Remnant
So this is probably, definitely TMI, but I'm just wanting to see if anyone else has ever had one and had it removed.
After having my baby in December I healed well, but something seemed off down there. My doctor okayed me at my 6 week appt and since he didn't say anything about it, I just assumed it was fine. Well I started my period back at 8 weeks PP and used pads mostly, but on a really heavy day decided to use tampons. It didn't hurt when I inserted it, but as the day went on I felt a pinching feeling. It got more and more uncomfortable until it actually started hurting. I removed the tampon and just wrote it off as sensitivity from the tearing still healing. And then I noticed an actual piece of skin/flesh sticking out 😱 I had an appointment in June and asked my OB what it was and she said it was a Hymenal remnant and it was very common after vaginal deliveries. Apparently my hymen was still mostly intact until I gave birth and it left it just hanging there. She said I could have it removed if I wanted and it was an out-patient procedure. I said I would think about it and didn't have any questions at the time. It's started bothering me more, especially when I use tampons, but it's not painful, just uncomfortable.
So I have questions for ladies who have had this done before. What is the procedure like? Does it involve stitches? What is the recovery time like? If I have another vaginal birth will I need to have it done again? Is it worth having removed?
Any experience would be helpful! I'm seriously considering having it removed, and when I have my IUD placed in a couple of months I will make sure to ask my OB some more questions. TIA!
