Fertility after cancer
Hey guys! I would love to hear some stories of my fellow cancer survivors about their fertility stories after chemotherapy or anyone who has struggled with fertility, I’ve been feeling down about everything about it and would love to hear some advice.
Backstory: I was diagnosed at age 18 with osteosarcoma and I went into remission a month after I turned 19! I’m now 21 years old, about to finish nursing school & with the man of my dreams. I’ve talked to my oncologist about my fertility and she said that there’s a 50 / 50 chance of being able to conceive naturally and that I’m in my “prime time” now if I want to try to have kids naturally. When I started dating my boyfriend two years ago I decided to get an IUD just to be safe because obviously we weren’t ready. Fast forward two years and we’re both almost finished with school and both have matured quite a lot. Lately my IUD has been bothering me & I’m not a fan of all the hormones and I would love to get it out, but I don’t want to go on any other birth control if I do get it out. Obviously, we want to finish school before we even think about trying for kids, and ideally would like to be married. But I’m worried that I’ll be infertile (if I’m not already) by that time.
I want to hear everyone’s opinions, obviously the decision is ours, but opinions on taking out my IUD and letting “nature run it’s course” or should I start by seeing a fertility doctor and then decide.
I want to hear some survivors stories, good or bad!💛
