How am I 3 cm dilated and not in pain?

Question

At my last appointment yesterday, they said I’m 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced.  I am not in any pain?!  
With my first, my water broke and I wasn’t progressing so they induced me.  After 24 hours I was at 4 cm and in excruciating pain from contractions and had an epidural
Why doesn’t 3 cm hurt now?!  I’m just at home waiting for labor to start.  I’m 39 weeks and due date is on Friday

I think it's the active labor and constant contractions part that hurts. You're not there yet but your body is getting you ready slowly. Definitely a good thing! Seems like it's gotten the hang of having a baby 💗

When your water breaks your contractions are 1000% more painful. Your water acts like a cushion for your contractions making them more bearable￼. Also pitocin makes contractions more powerful adding to your pain.
With my first my water broke immediately and my contractions hurt so bad, I wasn’t progressing and they gave me pitocin. Omg I was in so much pain.
With my second my water didn’t break until the end, contractions were almost painless compared to my first! I was also about 3cm a few days before labor. I’m pregnant with my 3rd and I hope my water doesn’t break right away again

Every body and every pregnancy is different. With both of mine I didn’t feel a thing until active labor at 6cm.

I was 3cm as well at 39w and felt nothing but then my active labor started and whoooooo boy! That was bad.

I was walking around at a 5 for a week and couldn't feel it at all. Donation doesn't hurt

I was 4cm at 35 weeks when I got my cervical cerclage out... I still had to be induced at 40+5
