Implementation or period??

I'm 11dpo today, period is due in about 3 days..this morning I had some pinkish spotting when I whiped..I was really hoping this was implantation bleeding and not my period! I put a tampon on just to avoid any accidents and about 3 hours later I removed it..it was almost halfway full..so I was pretty sure this was my period. However this afternoon I'm back to just light spotting. I'm so confused! My cycle is usually anywhere between 35 and 39 days, so if it's my period I'm definitely early. But with my first pregnancy I did not experience any implantation bleeding, hence my confusion. Any advice ladies? Is it still to early to test? I was trying to hold off until this weekend but what would you suggest?
