Is this odd?

The birthday/Christmas gifts that my mil gives to our daughter is only kept at her house. She buys them with the intent of them staying at her house, not coming home with us. And our daughter is 2

Okay unpopular opinion apparently. I think it’s strange. When we had our first child which was my parents first grandchild my mom went out and bought toys for their house. Her gifts she gives to my daughter are just that, gifts, so we take them with us. You don’t give a gift to your siblings or nieces or nephews and say “here this is yours, but, you can only use it here” I find it strange.

Maybe it's so your child has toys at Grandma's that they can play with instead of having to take some with them. Don't see it as odd.

Its totally weird. She should just buy toys for her house if she wants them there. Not give them as a gift and expect them to stay there. I'm not sure what to do about it though. I feel like that's a crappy thing to do to a kid, here's a gift but you cant take it home with you🙄😒

I would almost prefer it this way just so we wouldn't end up with so much stuff. But I'd be sad if kiddo was excited and had to part with a gift because grandma only got it for her house 🤷 I would hope she'd make an exception...?

My MIL does this with my niece & nephew. But mostly because my SIL doesn’t make them take care of their toys so all their stuff is broken & destroyed. She keeps it at her house so it’s not broken & so they have something to play with when they’re at her house (they’re there all the time). I find it a little odd but whatever

Yes. Totally weird. My mom gets stuff to use at her house, and also gives stuff as gifts that come home with us.

I don't find it odd. My mil buys things for my daughter and they usually stay in her house. I prefer it that way because she has so much stuff we don't have enough space. Plus it's so much easier when she has a sleepover there because everything she needs is already there so I haven't got to worry about packing all her things

If she is over there often then I dont see it as an issue. If she is not over there frequently then its weird.

No my parents do that with their grandchildren, they will buy something knowing it will be kept at our house so they have toys there. Not all of them but the bigger stuff they might get
