Breast pump for the hospital?

breast pump for the hospital?" /> 
FTM and trying to pack my hospital bags! Should I pack my breast pump or should I just leave it at home? My hospital policy right now is that my husband cannot go in and out of the hospital so he must remain in the room.

I took mine with my first, who I had last yr, and my hospital wouldn't let me use it. They wanted me to learn to breastfeed without it. I did end up using it when I got home so I knew how much baby was getting and also to power pump to up my milk production ... but I am not taking mine this time either.

I didn’t with my first and didn’t need it. I feel only being it if you think you might have questions on how to use it

Reading what others have said (it’s been a LONG time since I was a FTM!) I would say no you don’t need it but yes bring it so the lactation consultant can show you how to properly use it. 😊 Thats very good advice. I didn’t think of that because this is #5 for me lol  I don’t think you will need it but it will be great to have them show you exactly how it works

I’d call your hospital and see what in house pump they have, that way if it’s it’s the same as yours you won’t need to bring yours. I did bring mine with my first because I didn’t know, but they had Medelas in the postpartum room which is what I used so I didn’t need it. My daughter was a preemie and couldn’t latch so I did have to pump immediately postpartum.
(And also with covid, double checking to see if they’re using in house pumps still or not)

I asked about this during our virtual hospital tour last week. FTM here too and didn’t think I would bring it, but the nurse said it’s nice to bring and have the lactation specialist show you how to use it, make sure the flanges are fitted right, etc. I’ll probably just put it in the diaper bag.

Yes bring it! Yeah the hospital has one, but you're not going to be using the hospital pump when you go home. Some pumps are not compatible with some women. Take it and when the lactation consultant comes by, learn everything you can and get sized for your flange!

The hospital usually has a breast pump you can use (that will suck your boobs off. Seriously lol) but I am not sure if you will be able to use to die to the pandemic. I would ask! I’m not bringing mine

I’m bringing mine because I was there for 7 days with our first and he had to be dropper fed but I didn’t like the hospital’s pump. Mine fit easily enough in my duffel bag with my other stuff.
