My birth story - covid/sepsis/nicu
So I woke up 2nd July (9 days overdue) at 4am with mild pains. Went to the bathroom and all of a sudden I couldn't stop shaking, I threw up and got back into bed trying to get warm. I managed to sleep for a couple of hours until my 2 boys woke up but I felt sick to my stomach. I still couldn't stop shivering and my temp was 38.5 degrees so I rang the labour ward. They told me to come in and get checked. They hooked me up and baby's heart rate was 195 and I was tachycardic too. My temp and pulse were both high and I felt really dehydrated so they started giving me fluids. Midwife examined me and I was 3-4cm. An hour or so later she broke my waters and it was brown, yep baby had pooed inside. Luckily my labour progressed very quickly and he was born not even an hour after my waters broke. I held him just for a few minutes before he was taken up to NICU. Because my temp was high I wasn't allowed to see him for 2 days due to the whole covid thing so I had to get my results back first! It came back negative so they took me up to see him and it was perfect. Until the next day when I came down really poorly again. Couldn't stop shivering, temp was almost 40 degrees, chest pain, felt like i was going to die. Turns out I had a severe infection which let to sepsis. What should've been one of the happiest days of my life turned out to be the worst. I asked the doctor if I could write my will as I truly felt like I was dying. Even writing this birth story I'm trying to hold back the tears. But luckily Im still here. We both stayed in hospital for 5 days and then I was well enough to come home and finally look after my baby. I was still on antibiotics but I was feeling more normal. Archie Emerson is 3 weeks old now and doing brilliantly. I still get days where I feel shivering and it scares the heck out of me! But I'm blessed to be home with my 3 little boys π₯° Also he weighed 8lb4oz when he was born and no weighs 9lb3oz π
