Newborn sleeping a lot? Ftm 😫😫

How many hours should a newborn be sleeping through out the day and eating  ?

Newborns need so much sleep. 
Comparatively speaking, human babies are born far earlier in their development than any other animal. Think about how basically every other animal is born pretty much fully functional. Wobbly, but give it a few hours and they’re standing for example. 
“Being born so (comparatively) early means human babies spend all their early life lying about growing their brains. They make a million new brain cells every twenty seconds and this can use up to four fifths of their body’s energy.”
When a baby sleeps, they aren’t doing nothing. They are literally growing their brain, and it takes most of energy that they have.

My son is a week old and I was told to expect him to sleep 18-22 hours a day. Seems like a lot because it is and that’s okay. 💕

Except when he was cluster feeding, our son slept all of the time. It was just sleep with breaks for food and diaper changes.

I’m pretty sure it’s like 15-18 hours a day that they sleep. 
They should eat about every 2-3 hours, and usually have one 5ish hour stretch of sleep. They should only be awake for like 20min at a time.

I dont know exactly numbers anymore though but it's most of the day.
